In February 2010, Marc and Manna will leave Paris to launch on a 6-month round the world trip before settling in London. This blog is where they will document their adventure.

Manna is a food-loving, born and bred Tokyoite with a Spanish mom and a Japanese dad, and has lived in the UK for 3 years and France for nearly 10 years. Although she calls Paris home, not least because the wining and dining culture there is unparalleled, she is currently preparing to move across the Channel to explore the culinary delights (?!) of Great Britain. Her favourite foods include but are not limited to jamón, steak (saignant), fish eggs of all kinds, tomatoes, coriander, toro, natto, soup dumplings, pho, shabu shabu, bibimbap, bacon, sausages, açai bowls, tarte tatin, crème caramel, rice pudding and panna cotta. Although she is firmly a carnivore, she will not eat haggis or andouillette.

Other than eating, Manna is addicted to the internet and supports Barça. She also likes films and TV shows, and has been trying to start reading again as much as she used to. A first flight at 7 months has condemned Manna to a life-long case of travel buggitis.

Marc is an Essex-born Mancunian with a love of sport and a deep hatred of olives and pavement air vents. Through his studies he accumulated a profound knowledge of 19th century English poetry and modern hermeneutic philosophy but now hides this well under a façade of football and beer.

When he decides to grow up Marc would like to become an extraordinarily successful strategic communications entrepreneur, so perhaps giving up a job, a house, a cat and a whole load of cash is not the wisest career move. But there are many roads to success and hopefully this is just the longer, sandier, more picturesque one.

Either way, travelling is an ambition that Marc was always determined to fulfill. Why? Because, as Mark Twain put it, “twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

The Boss: Ute (pronounced oo-tuh)

Ute is Marc and Manno one is cuterna’s (very french) 9-year-old monochrome cat. She was rescued at an animal shelter in Ile de Ré when she was 3 months old. She is fat and furry and is more like a dog than a cat. Ute will be left with her official London cat-sitters, Kate and Tristan, while her humans take a well-deserved break from being at her constant beck and call. Ute likes belly rubs, tuna, lentils, sweetcorn, popcorn, the cable box (for warmth) and carpets (on which to drag herself along). Her superior skills and stunning beauty have been immortalised in the little-known hits  The Velcro Cat Song and Ute (No One Is Cutah). She is thought to suffer from an intermittent case of schizophrenia.
